The Vermont
Department of Education collects and reports on a wide range of data related to public
schools in the state. Categories of data currently available include:

Accountability Data (State)
View Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) summary reports and individual data reports for each school district and school.

Assessment Data (State & National)
View links to various student, school, supervisory unions/districts, state, and national assessment results information (e.g., NECAP, NSRE, VT-DRA, VT-PASS, SAT, AP and the Nation's Report Card).

Finance Data Reports (Updated 11/3/08)
These reports are generated by the department's School Finance division at various times during the year based on data submitted by school districts/supervisory unions. Each report targets specific information for all towns/schools in Vermont. This list also includes
a link to the Vermont School Report , a comprehensive report that incorporates school
finance and other data into school-by-school reports, which are organized by town.

Town Meeting Grids for FY 2009 (4.8MB)
Town meeting grids are designed to estimate the amount of education property tax a homeowner would pay on a house and up to two acres for the coming tax year. The grids are based on board approved preliminary budget data submitted to the department. NOTE: This file will be updated somewhat frequently through April 2008. This document is dated March 19, 2008.

Data Collection Materials and Training Information
Each fiscal year, the department collects data from Vermont's supervisory unions and school districts. In addition, the department provides training to help school professionals provide the data. This area provides access to training material, data collection instructions and forms for submitting data to the department.

Special Education Data
The department collects and reports data annually on a number of indicators concerning special education as required under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA). Current data available at both the statewide and supervisory union level in the Child Count, the State Performance Plan and the Annual Performance Report.

Allowable
Tuition Rate Report (Updated 11/3/08)
This report (previously known as "Net Cost Per Pupil) lists by school district
and grade level the actual rate towns may charge for tuition. Allowable tuition is
calculated by dividing actual allowable expenditures by the full-time equivalency
of students. Vermont law requires publication of these data on or before November
1st each year. |

Announced
Tuition Report
Announced
tuition rates for an upcoming school year are listed by town district, union district
and private academy. Announced tuition is the maximum amount of tuition per student
a receiving district can collect from sending districts. Vermont law requires that
any increases over a previous year’s announced tuition rate must be reported to sending
districts and the Department of Education by February 1st each year. |

Average
Daily Membership (ADM) Report
Average Daily Membership (ADM) is a count of resident and state-placed students who receive an elementary or secondary education at public expense; data are listed by town according to a student’s residence. Resident students are counted during the period from the 11th to the 30th day of the current school year, while state-placed students are counted for the school year prior to the current census period. Data are used in calculating equalized pupils which are used to determine the homestead tax rates.

with the 2001-2002 school year the department now presents event dropout and completion
data in the Dropout
and High School Completion Report
along with an estimated cohort completion rate. |

Dropout
and High School Completion Report
Prior to the 2001-2002 school year, the Vermont Department of Education published
event dropout and high school completion rates in two separate reports. Beginning
with the 2001-2002 school year the department now presents event dropout and completion
data in a single report along with an estimated cohort completion rate. This change
reflects the department’s commitment to streamlining data management. |

Enrollment
Reports
This is
an annual head count as of October 1st. The report is organized by school, grade,
ethnicity and gender break down. |

Estimated High School
Cohort Graduation Rates
Beginning with the 2001-2002 school year the department now presents event dropout
and completion data in the Dropout and High School Completion Report along with an estimated cohort
completion rate. |

Excess Spending Threshold
Under Act 68, a district with an education spending amount per equalized pupil (less approved construction costs) greater than the excess spending threshold incurs an additional tax for the amount over the threshold. The threshold amount is based on statewide data from the prior year. |

with the 2001-2002 school year the department now presents event dropout and completion
data in the Dropout
and High School Completion Report
along with an estimated cohort completion rate. |

Per Pupil Spending (by School Type)
This report
organizes town school districts into groups by the type of school system they operate.
The data for each group include the number of equalized pupils, budgeted expenditures
and local education spending per equalized pupil, and statewide rankings. Districts
are ranked within the group, based on budgets per equalized pupils for the group
alone. At the bottom of each grouping are comparative numbers showing what the data
would be if the group was considered a single school district. |

School Comparison Data for Cost-Effectiveness
Schools are required to report on student performance to community members at least annually. Part of the data to be included in those annual reports enable comparisons between schools for cost-effectiveness. The data in this report are from the commissioner and have been provided to the supervisory unions for dissemination to the individual schools and school boards. |

Small
Schools Support Grants
This report lists small schools grant amounts. Small school districts operating
at least one school are eligible for a small schools support grant if the two-year
average enrollment is less than 100 or if the average grade size is 20 or fewer.
Districts receiving a support grant are also eligible for a small schools financial
stability grant if there is a 10% decrease in the two-year average enrollment in
any one year. |

These
reports show estimated state funding amounts by school district for various special
education funding categories. |

Summary
of the Annual Statistical Reports of Schools (SASRS)
This report,
which provides an accounting of annual revenues and expenditures by school district,
is provided in a form similar to data submitted to the National Center for Education
Statistics by the Department of Education. Data are organized according to federal
definitions. Schools submit information to the department in the Annual Statistical
Report of Schools, due annually on August 15th. |

Teacher/Staff
Full-time Equivalency (FTE) and Salary Report
This report
presents data on student to teacher ratios, teacher and staff full-time equivalencies
(FTEs) and salaries in the elementary and secondary school system. Collected annually
each fall, data are used to calculate average state class sizes and salaries and
are reported to the National Center for Education Statistics and the Vermont School
Boards Association. |
